Do You Love What You Do?
If your affiliate marketing efforts aren't
based on something you are truly interested in, you will fail.
Do you think this statement is an exaggeration?
You could begin your affiliate marketing
efforts on the subject of Internet marketing. Unfortunately,
most beginners don't know anything about their subject, so it's
difficult to write pages and pages of information for a
website.
Many new marketers
don't even have a website. They just take the pre-written ads
that they get from the affiliate product's author and submit
them to free classifieds, FFA sites and ezines.
There are two immediate problems with this
scenario. First, free classified and FFA sites don't work! Very
few human readers ever see those ads.
Second, the opposite problem occurs when
the ads are submitted to newsletters. When you get a crowd of
affiliates all submitting a pre-written ad, it's likely that
they've already been seen by a large group of people. Sometimes
an attempt is made to rewrite an ad. Those ads will get a
better click-through response.
Now, let's think about affiliate marketing
from another angle. What do you enjoy? Everyone has a hobby or
interest that s/he knows something about and loves doing.
Creating a website on a subject you are
interested in and that you know well, cuts a lot of the
research time out of your schedule. Your website's content will
almost write itself.
Of course, you will still need to learn
about how to market your website and the affiliate programs
associated it. But, you won't be trying to write something
about a subject you know nothing about - yet.
You also need a plan. You can't just
"throw" a website together, put it on a server, and expect to
succeed. Here's a simplified plan to help a new affiliate
marketer to get started:
1. Make a list of your interests and the
things you do well. Research each item on the list and decide
which will be most profitable for you.
2. Make sure you can find affiliate
products to fit that topic. Make a list keywords related to
your website topic and that relate to the affiliate products
you have found.
3. Create website content based on those
keywords. Use them generously (but don't OVER use them).
4. Choose and add the specific affiliate
programs for your topic to your web pages. Only use two or
three at the most for each page's topic.
5. Register your domain name and purchase
website hosting. Load your new website to your server.
6. Promote your site.
A whole lot can be added
to each of these steps, but the main message is: Do what you
love! You are more likely to finish what you start - and thus,
succeed in your affiliate marketing effort
